Giving Evidence as an Adult
Giving evidence in a criminal court can feel daunting, especially if you don’t know what to expect. This courtroom demonstration provides an authentic representation of what it’s like for an adult victim giving evidence remotely with the support of a PACT volunteer.
It captures the realities of giving evidence in a criminal proceeding, including examination by the prosecutor, cross-examination by the defence and the oversight of the judicial officer, while showing the important role of PACT support throughout the process.
Giving Evidence as a Child
It’s normal for a child to find this experience overwhelming. This video shows you what to expect, from how the judicial officer explains everything clearly, to knowing you can ask for a break whenever you need one and having a PACT volunteer by your side the whole time.
It captures the experience of a child taking part in a pre-recording of evidence with the support of a PACT volunteer, knowing what to expect can help you feel calm, confident and better prepared for the experience.
Giving Evidence with an Intermediary
An intermediary is an independent communication specialist appointed by the Courts to help a child understand questions and communicate their answers clearly. Under the Queensland Intermediary Scheme, an intermediary may be appointed for children under 16, with a mental impairment or difficulty communicating.
This video shows how an intermediary supports a child during a pre-recording, adapting questions to their communication needs while preserving the integrity of their evidence.
